Men’s Soccer’s Philip Suprise and Field Hockey’s Nicole Lewis Named Quinnipiac’s November Athletes of the Month

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men’s soccer senior Philip Surprise (Milwaukee, Wis.) and field hockey senior Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) were named the Male and Female Athletes of the Month for the month of November, announced on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. The two seniors recently concluded tremendous careers with their respective programs.

Suprise wrapped up a stellar four-year career this past month with a senior season that resulted in the program’s first Northeast Conference Regular-Season Title. In his first game of the month, Suprise had a goal and an assist in the team’s 3-0 win that clinched the 2012 regular-season. A week later, Suprise netted the game-tying goal against Saint Francis (Pa.) in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament. Suprise finished with nine goals and two assists for a team-best 20 points on the season. Suprise ranked amongst the conference leaders in several categories, including goals, goals per game, points, and points per game.

Surprise also earned his second trip to the NEC First-Team and fourth career conference accolade. His goal against the Red Flash NEC Tournament served as his 26th career goal for the Bobcats. With the tally, he finished his career in eighth place all-time in goals (26), ninth place all-time in points (61), and was one assist shy of cracking top 15 all-time.

Nicole Lewis - Senior - Goalkeeper - East Amherst, N.Y.
Field hockey senior goalkeeper Nicole Lewis collected Northeast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year honors while also being named to the Northeast Conference First Team. After a gritty, 13-save outing against eventual champion Rider in the Northeast Conference Tournament, Lewis earned All-NEC Tournament honors as well. Lewis led the NEC with a .818 save percentage and a 1.44 goals-against average after posting an 11-2 record overall. In seven NEC games, Lewis was 5-2 with a 1.18 GAA and a .875 save percentage. She also led the NEC with four shutouts while ranking among the national leaders in all categories. She concluded her career with being named to the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region Team.
