HAMDEN, Conn. – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced the dates and times of the 2014 Men’s and Women’s Basketball Preseason Shows, which will be produced from the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney. A women’s coaches forum will air on Wednesday, Sept. 3 with a men’s segment to follow on Thursday, September 4. The MAAC Basketball Preseason Show will be presented on Wednesday, Nov. 5 to discuss the upcoming 2014-15 season. Each segment will be aired on ESPN3 at 7 p.m.
The 2014 MAAC Basketball Coaches Preview Show promises to give college hoops fans an early look at the upcoming MAAC season, as men’s and women’s head coaches will be featured throughout the show and will take an in-depth look at the league’s teams and top players.
For the coaches’ forums, the women and men’s coaches will each have separate broadcasts, both consisting of 90-minute shows. All 11 coaches will be grouped together to discuss different topics about their team, possible major award winners, opposing teams, and changes to the sport of basketball. MAAC basketball talent personnel will help moderate the show while Commissioner Rich Ensor will also be a part of each of the round table discussions.
The preseason show will incorporate elements from the filming of the coaches’ forum, as well as announcing of the team standings in the preseason polls, members of the All-MAAC teams, and major award winners.
The events will take place in a state-of-the-art facility that includes monitors and a round table desk as well as a six-camera set-up. Graphics and b-roll video will be incorporated into the shows as well.
“It is an exciting opportunity for the MAAC and ESPN to bring an innovative coaches’ forum to the leagues membership, alumni, and fans,” notes Ensor. “The MAAC is looking forward to broadcasting the coaches’ forum and the Preseason Show at this new state-of-the-art facility, which will incorporate social media and fan engagement.”
A component of the coaches’ forums will include a social media campaign in which fans and media will have the opportunity to submit questions that they want to ask the coaches using the hashtag #MAACHoops15. The goal of the forum is to create an engaging editorial broadcast with discussion points that will include topics ranging from individual team aspects to NCAA rule changes along with submitted questions from fans and the media. The campaign will begin a week prior to the airing of the show and all question submissions that are selected will be determined by the MAAC office and ESPN. Not all submitted questions are guaranteed to make the broadcast.
The men’s and women’s basketball seasons open up on Friday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 15 at the TD Bank Sports Center. The men’s team kicks off the season at the annual Connecticut 6 Classic, where it will serve as the tournament host for the first time in program history. The Bobcats take on cross-town rival Yale at 5:30 p.m. in the middle game of the three-game showcase.
The women’s team begins its journey the following day when it welcomes Army to Lender Court. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. on York Hill Campus.
