Men's and Women's Tennis Spring Break in Florida Blog - Tuesday, March 11, 2014

ORLANDO, Fla. - Quinnipiac Men's Tennis Sophomore Ben Teicher | On Monday, the men’s and women’s teams had a tough task playing against South Dakota State University.  We prepared early by doing some stretching, light fitness and then went back home to relax before leaving for Sanlando Park in Orlando, Florida.

We were on the team bus at 11 a.m. and everyone was ready for our first match outdoors in 2014. The facility we played at has 25 courts, which allowed the men and women to play simultaneously.

Both the men and women were off to a quick start taking the doubles point at 2nd and 3rd for the men, and the women with a sweep.

In singles, the men were in a battle down 2-3, after Kei Ezaka rallied for an exciting come from behind win at first singles. Eric Ambrosio worked his way back to force a third set tiebreaker at second singles, while Patrick Sell battled at third singles. Unfortunately, Eric fell 10-8 in the third, and Patrick lost after a three-hour clash. The final score was 5-2 in favor of South Dakota State.

With the score tight in the women’s match, they faced unfortunate circumstances when Michelle Dassa was up 6-3, 3-2 and injured her ankle which forced a retirement. Ariana Launie won a close match at sixth singles for the women, before the team eventually fell 5-2 as well.

We are putting today behind us and focusing on another big match tomorrow morning for the men and women against Creighton.
