HAMDEN, Conn. – Bobcats' baseball junior Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) and women’s outdoor track & field senior Becca White (Natick, Mass.) have been named the Quinnipiac May Athletes of the Month, which was announced on Wednesday, May 4, 2014.
Vincent Guglietti helped Quinnipiac secure a spot in the 2014 MAAC Championships, hitting .373 (19-51) for the month of May. He had six multi-hit games which resulted in 10 RBI and four runs scored in 13 games for the Bobcats. Guglietti’s best performance at the dish came on the final day of a three-game set with Canisius. He went 3-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored – belting his team-leading fifth homerun of the season. Guglietti totaled three hits for a second time in the month in the opening game of the MAAC Tournament. He torched the Monmouth pitching staff with a 3-for-4 day while driving in a run in the 4-0 victory. Guglietti’s month helped him solidify a spot on All-New England, All-MAAC and All-College Sports Madness teams at season’s end. He led Quinnipiac in average (.341), runs scored (29), hits (59), doubles (13), home runs (5), RBI (36), and slugging percentage (.514).
Becca white placed 8th in the New England Championship 5000m and also combined with three others to claim 5th place in the 4x800m relay. For the entire two-day New England Championships she scored all five of the Bobcats points for the meet. White also placed 4th in the 5000m at the MAAC Championships and also placed 3rd in the 4x800m at the same event. White and three other Bobcats combined to finish with the fastest relay time since 2005 and the 2nd fastest in outdoor program history (3rd fastest overall in QU track and field history)
