HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac men’s soccer senior forward William Daniels (Clackamas, Ore.) and women’s soccer senior goalkeeper Jill Kelley (Simsbury, Conn.) have been named August’s Athletes of the Month, announced on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 by the Department of Athletics and Recreation.

William Daniels has been the driving force behind a stellar start for the Bobcats men’s soccer team. The Clackamas, Ore. native found the scoring column in each of Quinnipiac’s games for the month of August. Daniels scored the team’s first goal of the season against #14 nationally ranked Boston College on Aug. 24, and then followed with the Bobcats first goal in a 2-1 win at Holy Cross (Aug. 30). Prior to regular-season play, Daniels found success in preseason competition as well. He scored once and added three assists in games against Rhode Island and Adelphi.

Jill Kelley anchored a formidable Bobcats’ defense in the final week of August, leading the team to a perfect 2-0 record. The Simsbury, Conn. native began the season with five saves against BIG EAST foe Providence to preserve her 11th career shutout. Kelley backed that performance with a 2-1 victory over Vermont (Aug. 31), where she turned away two shots in her 20th career win. With her efforts, Kelley moved into fourth place all-time in saves and wins, and remains in third place for goals against average. Kelley was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week and the College Sports Madness Player of the Week for her tremendous play.

Field hockey junior forward Jennalise Taylor (Yardley, Pa.) was also nominated for the monthly award. Taylor was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week for her efforts, while also earning a Griff Chicken Shack Player of the Game laurel against Towson (Aug. 26).
