Bobcats' junior Shameal Samuels (Hartford, Connecticut) was named Quinnipiac's January Female Athlete of the Month.
Shameal Samuels shined in the month of January with her record-breaking 400m sprint in the Terrier Invite on Jan. 30. Samuels, who has largely diversified her resume up to this point in the season competing in a variety of events other than her signature 400m, dominated the day with a blistering time of 54.19 seconds in the 400m. Her sensational performance placed her 4th overall out of 132 total competitors on the afternoon, trailing only two unattached runners and the reigning NCAA Division II 400m champion Carly Muscaro of Merrimack by .09 seconds. The time of 54.19 seconds has Samuels ranked 1st in the MAAC by 2.5 seconds, 3rd in the ECAC (trailing only runners from Notre Dame and Penn State) and 25th in the NCAA Div. I as of Friday, Jan. 30. Samuels’ QU record-setting time bests her own previous program record of 54.38 seconds, accomplished in the same building at the 2014 New England Championships.
