Quinnipiac softball junior Alex Alba (Sylmar, Calif.) and baseball senior Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn.) were named teh Quinnipiac Athletes of the Month for April.
The Bobcats’ starting shortstop posted a .333 batting average as she matched a team-leading 23 hits. Alba started in all 21 contests during the month, also leading Quinnipiac with 43 total bases and 20 RBI, while contributing 15 runs scored. The Sylmar, Calif. native recorded a team-high five home runs and five doubles throughout April. She also was successful on three steal attempts, while recording a .387 on base percentage and pacing the Bobcats with a .623 slugging percentage. Alba only made two errors as she made 37 putouts and 46 assists from the infield.
Also nominated for the month award were acrobatics & tumbling senior Erin Trotman, women's golf junior Kayla Ketcheson, women's tennis junior Sarah Viebrock and women's outdoor track junior Becca White.
Nisson led Quinnipiac with a .342 (27-79) average with four doubles, nine RBI and 15 runs scored. Nisson recorded nine multiple-hit games, eight of which came against Northeast Conference competition. The fourth-year Bobcat was 2-for-4 against Central Connecticut State on April 1 before following it with a 3-for-5 day against Monmouth on April 5. He was 3-for-6 with an RBI in a doubleheader the following day against the Hawks before putting forward a 3-for-5 day against regionally-ranked UConn that featured a two-run double. Nisson also owns one of the two five-hit games in the Northeast Conference this year when he was 5-for-6 with four RBI and five runs scored ina 17-3 romp of Mount St. Mary's that was head coach Dan "Skip" Gooley's 500th career win. He capped off a tremendous month with seven hits in four games against in-state rival Sacred Heart that featured two hits in each of the first three games of the series.
Also nominated for the monthly award were men's tennis senior James Kwei.
