Becky Mella joined the Quinnipiac sports medicine staff in 2011 as an assistant athletic trainer. Mella comes to Quinnipiac from Saint Joseph (Conn.) College where she worked as an athletic trainer from 2000 through 2011. Mella's primary responsibility will be with the Quinnipiac's women's basketball program.
Mella held the title of Head Athletic Trainer at Saint Joseph from 2000-2005 before moving into an Assistant Athletic Trainer position in 2006. While at SJC, Mella coordinated all athletic training efforts for the Bluejays' eight Division III women's collegiate teams. In addition, Mella also developed and implemented a comprehensive strength and conditioning program for the college's student-athletes. She also handled the ordering of inventory and the department's budget facilitation. While at Saint Joseph, Mella also taught a variety of courses as an adjunct professor.
Prior to her work at Saint Joseph, Mella was the Assistant Athletic Trainer at Trinity (Conn.) College from 2005 to 2007. With the Bantams, Mella worked with the football, men's and women's basketball, women's soccer, field hockey, women's lacrosse, ice hockey, baseball and the nationally-ranked men's and women's squash teams.
Mella also held positions with William H. Hall (Conn.) High School as the Head Athletic Trainer; with Eastern Rehabilitation Network (Conn.) and Metro Orthopedics and Sports Therapy (Md.) as a clinical athletic trainer and with the Washington (D.C.) Warthogs, a professional indoor soccer program, as an athletic trainer.
Mella graduated from Ithaca College in 1995 with a bachelor's degree in athletic training/exercise science with a minor in health. She then went on to graduate from the University of Maryland with a master's in exercise physiology in 1998. Mella is also NATA certified since 1995 and NSCA certified since 1999.
