Quinnipiac University field hockey freshman Danielle Allan (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) and men's soccer freshman Nils von der Heide have been named August Athletes of the Month by the Department of Athletics & Recreation.
Allan had an epic debut to her field hockey career, scoring twice and assisting on another goal, in the Bobcats' 6-2 win against Holy Cross in their season opener. Allan became the first player in Quinnipiac's Division I history to score twice in her first collegiate game, helping her to the Northeast Conference Co-Player and Rookie of the Week awards.
von der Heide registered his first-career goal on Monday, Aug. 29 in a 2-1 loss to Providence. The freshman got a head on a cross into the penalty box, deflecting it into the back of the net to give the Bobcats the 1-0 lead in the 24th minute of play. Von der Heide took two shots in the contest.
Quinnipiac volleyball senior Kayla Lawler (Louisville, Ky.) was also nominated for the monthly award.
Both teams are in action this week as men's soccer plays at Boston College on Thursday, Sept. 1 while the field hockey team plays BC on Friday, Sept. 2. Field hockey will also Yale on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m.
