Quinnipiac University Director of Athletics and Recreation Jack McDonald has announced that Scott Walker has been named as the Fitness Coordinator for the Recreation Center. Walker comes to Quinnipiac from University of Iowa where he served as the Facilities Coordinator since June 2010.
Walker's responsibilities involve the hiring, training and mentoring of Quinnipiac students to work in the school’s fitness center. In addition to working with students in the fitness center, he will also assist in developing recreation programs for the university.
While at Iowa, Walker assisted in all facets of facility operation at the school’s 310,000 square foot Field House which included recreation, academic, special event and tournament scheduling. Walker also supervised a staff of over 50 graduate and undergraduate student-workers.
Prior to joining the staff at Iowa, Walker was a graduate assistant at East Stroudsburg University from Aug. 2008 to May 2010. He also served as a recreation services intern at Lafayette College’s Kirby Recreation Center. Walker also has experience as a whitewater guide on the Lehigh River at Whitewater Challengers in New Haven, Pa. and also as an earth scientist.
Walker earned a masters degree in sports management from East Stroudsburg in May 2010 and a bachelors degree in environmental geology from Millersville University in 2006. Walker is a National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) member and also held a membership in the Pennsylvania Intramural and Recreational Sports Association.
Walker, originally from Annville, Pa., currently resides in Hamden, Conn. with his wife Jessica, and two dogs, Luka and Rocket.
