Brittany McQuain and Eric Hartzell Named Quinnipiac's February Athletes of the Month
Quinnipiac women's basketball junior Brittany McQuain and men's ice hockey senior Eric Hartzell have been named Quinnipiac's February Athletes of the Month.
For the month of February, Brittany McQuain (Independence, Mo.) had a great all-around month she garnered 102 points to average 12.8 points per outing as well as pulling down 9.1 rebounds per game as the women's basketball team posted an 8-0 record for the month. The forward also connected on 16 assists and had 10 blocks and 15 steals. From the field she shot .440 percent and was recognized as the NEC women’s basketball player of the week for the second time this season. McQuain is just 76 points away from receiving the coveted 1,000 points benchmark for her career. The Bobcats clinched the NEC Regular Season Championship and are currently winners in 19-straight games on their way to the most wins in NEC history (27). For the year, McQuain is averaging 11.6 points and 8.6 rebounds while shooting 44.1% from the floor.
Eric Hartzell (White Bear Lake, Minn.) led Quinnipiac to a 5-1-2 record while posting a 1.60 goals-against-average, good for the 4th best in NCAA Division I men's ice hockey. The senior goalie also posted a .938 save percentage after allowing 13 goals on 110 shots on goal for the month. He stopped 30 shots in a 6-2 win against Yale on Feb. 2 before following with a 24 save outing in a 4-1 win at Cornell. He also stopped 28 shots in goal to break the Quinnipiac single-season win record, 21, in a 2-1 win before topping Yale, 4-1, in the 11th Annual Heroes Hat Game on Feb. 22 on NBC Sports. For the year, Hartzell - a Hobey Baker Memorial Award candidate - is 24-4-5 overall with a 1.49 goals-against average and a .936 save percentage in 33 games overall.
