Quinnipiac's Q30 Nominated For 2013 Pinnacle Awards For "Best Collegiate Sportscast"

Quinnipiac University's student-operated television station Q30 has been nominated for a 2013 Pinnacle Award for "Best Collegiate Sportscast". This is the second year in a row that Q30 has been nominated for the award.

"We're very happy for Q30 and want to thank them for all they do for Quinnipiac Athletics," Director of Athletics Jack McDonald said. "They are a group of very driven students who put together a professional production."

Quinnipiac’s student-run closed-circuit television channel was established in 1993. Q30 operates out of a studio in the Media Suite in the Carl Hansen Student Center and provides a tremendous opportunity for students of any major to experience how a television station works. Programming includes news, sports, music and more.

"I am incredibly proud of this group of hard-working individuals who have found an excellent balance between academics and their involvement in student media," Q30 General Manager Jon Alba said. "Furthermore, these students have found ways to incorporate many of the skills taught throughout the different courses within the School of Communications and elsewhere at Quinnipiac. Be it in the studio or at a desk, all the essential values taught within the Quinnipiac curriculum have been valuable to the fullest extent. Because of these, Quinnipiac will once again be recognized on a national level."

Quinnipiac Athletics and Q30 have had an outstanding relationship since the organization's inception. Each week, Quinnipiac sports information works closely with Q30 to coordinate interviews and in-studio guests for Q30 Sports Paws' weekly highlight show. Of Q30's many contributions to Quinnipiac Athletics, it's most notable was the sharing of the footage of former baseball stand-out Brian Monack's highlight-reel catch that landed on ESPN's SportsCenter. Most recently, Q30 sports director Jon Alba traveled with the women's basketball team to their first NCAA Tournament game in program history. Alba then produced "Gold Rush", a highlight show featuring the women's basketball team's incredible season.

The Pinnacle Awards will be given out at the College Media Association conference, to be held in October.
