HAMDEN, Conn. Quinnipiac University senior Chris Gloor (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was named to the 2009 All-Northeast Conference Baseball Second Team after a year that saw the left-handed starting pitcher's NEC-leading 81 strikeouts break the Quinnipiac Division I single-season record while adding to his career strikeout total of 238, also a Bobcats Division I record. Gloor won a career-best seven games in 2009 including five wins against NEC competition.
This season, Gloor posted a 7-4 record with a 4.63 earned-run average after allowing 42 earned runs over 81 2/3 innings pitched. His 13 strikeouts against Holy Cross on March 21 were a career-high, which he followed with a 10-strikeout outing against Binghamton on March 27. His 11 strikeouts against Mount St. Mary's were Gloor's most against a Northeast Conference opponent, and made him the first Quinnipiac pitcher in the university's 11-year Division I history to strike-out 10 in three consecutive games.
Against the NEC this season, Gloor was 5-1 with a 3.93 ERA while striking out 43 batters over 50 1/3 innings pitched. After a no-decision against Mount St. Mary's, Gloor won his next four starts against NEC opponents. He closed out his career with a win against Long Island on May 14. Gloor was also named the Akadema/Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week on March 27 after he spun a complete-game shutout against Fairleigh Dickinson on March 24. Gloor held the Knights to five hits in that game, while striking out nine.
Gloor was also named the Eli's Restaurant Group/Quinnipiac Male Athlete of the Month for April after posting a 3-0 record with a 2.27 ERA in four starts in the month. Last year, Gloor was selected in the 39th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Detroit Tigers.
