April 1-3, 2010
Ballpark at Harbor Yard - Bridgeport, Conn.
Intra-State Action
The Quinnipiac University baseball team will head to the Ballpark
at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn. for a three-day, four-game
series against Northeast Conference foe, Sacred Heart University.
Quinnipiac enters their second NEC series of the 2010 season with a
conference mark of 1-3 while Sacred Heart will be playing its first
conference series of the year. The Pioneers are currently 6-11.
Missed One
Due to a miscalculation of the career statistics by the Quinnipiac
Sports Information Department heading into the 2010 season, Brian
Monack's 100th career hit was never reported. The senior
centerfielder opened the year with 96 career hits, and became the
52nd player in Quinnipiac history to reach the 100-hit mark with a
2-for-4 day against North Carolina on Mar. 7, 2010. Monack has
collected 112 career hits to date, good for 42nd all-time.
The
Mick and Joe?
Mickey Amanti (Waterford, Conn.) and Joe Poletsky (Riverside,
Conn.) are also currently chasing the 100-hit mark, and both sit at
96 career hits heading into the four-game series against Sacred
Heart.
This
Is Starting To Become A Habit
Mike Oskandy (Bethel, Conn.) was the first NEC pitcher this season
to throw nine innings in a game, and now he is the only pitcher in
the NEC to date to complete the feat twice. Oskandy went the
distance against Mount St. Mary's in a 9-1 win on Friday, holding
the Mount to one run on seven hits while striking out five. In his
last two starts, Oskandy is 1-1 with a 1.00 ERA. The fifth-year
starter has scattered 12 hits over his last 18 innings while
striking out 11.
Howdy Kyle
Quinnipiac sophomore catcher Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman
Hall) hit a team-high .364 (4-11) this weekend, while also posting
team-highs in slugging percentage (.455) and on-base percentage
(.462). Nisson hit safely in three of Quinnipiac's four games
against Mount St. Mary's this weekend, including a 2-for-4 day with
his first double of the season in the second game of the series.
For the year, Nisson leads the team in batting average (.391),
slugging percentage (.435) and on-base percentage (.451).
Welcome Back Migs
Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) returned to the Bobcats lineup this
weekend after missing six straight games with an injury. Migani was
2-for-4 with a two-run double in the first game of the Mount
series, helping Quinnipiac to a 9-1 win. Migani then drove in both
Quinnipiac runs in a 5-2 loss in the first game of their
doubleheader against the Mount on Saturday.
Well, You Knew There Would Be A Monack Note
Brian Monack (Branford, Conn.) drove in a team-high four runs,
while also scoring a team-high three runs over the four-game set
with Mount St. Mary's.
