Baseball Loses To Fairfield, 7-2
HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost to Fairfield, 7-2, in a non-conference game at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. With the loss, the Bobcats drop to 3-20 overall while Fairfield improves to 11-14.
Quinnipiac sophomore Gabe Guerino (Milford, Conn.) hit his first homerun of the season, a two-run blast that left the Bobcats' home field in a hurry over the right field fence. Sophomore Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) led off the inning with one of his two hits on the day. The homer by Guerino cut Fairfield's lead to four runs, 6-2.
In addition to Migani's 2-for-4 day, Joe Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.) turned in his team-leading 10th multiple-hit outing, posting a 3-for-4 afternoon. Mickey Amanti (Waterford, Conn.) continued his hot-streak as he went 2-for-3 against the Stags. In his last five games, Amanti has three multiple-hit games and has eight hits in his last 19 at-bats for a .421 average. Over that period, Amanti has driven in a team-high seven runs while posting a team-best .737 slugging percentage.
Quinnipiac starter Mike Oskandy (Bethel, Conn.) took the loss to drop to 1-4 on the season. Oskandy gave up six runs, all in the first two innings, before settling in and scattering eight hits. Oskandy struck out two batter and walked two more. He also hit three batters, all in the second inning when Sacred Heart pushed four runs across. Oskandy managed to allow just three base runners past the second inning, spinning four straight scoreless innings before being lifted. Anthony Cinelli (Wall, N.J.) allowed one run on two hits over the final three innings of the game.
For Fairfield, Rob Gariano improved to 2-3 on the mound with the complete-game victory. Gariano held Quinnipiac to two runs on nine hits while striking out seven. Marco Garamella was 3-for-4 with three RBI. Bill Rafferty was 2-for-5, scoring the game's first run to stake Fairfield to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jason Rago was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Fairfield scored twice in the first inning before plating four runs in the second. They added one run in the top of the ninth.
The Bobcats and Stags will play against on Sunday, April 11 when they square-off at Fairfield's Alumni Baseball Field in Fairfield, Conn. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
