Baseball Falls To Bryant, 4-1

HAMDEN, CONN. - The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost to Bryant University, 4-1, in a Northeast Conference match-up at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. The loss drops Quinnipiac to 14-32 overall and 13-12 in the NEC while Bryant improves to 28-21 overall and 19-6 in NEC play.

Bryant starting pitcher Brent Almeida carried a no-hitter through six innings of play before Quinnipiac third baseman Joe Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.) led off the seventh inning with a base hit up the middle. Almeida retired the first seven batters he faced in the game before Ryan Ullrich (Orange, Conn.) reached on an error in the third inning. Almeida was able to retire the final two batters he faced in the inning. He walked one batter in both the fourth and fifth inning before retiring all three batters he faced in the sixth.

After Poletsky's hit up the middle, Chris MIgani (Orange, Conn.) lined a single to the right-center field gap, moving Poletsky to third base. Almeida was able to induce the double-play ball from Gabe Guerino (Milford, Conn.) before Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn.) ground-out to end the inning.

Quinnipiac starter Mike Oskandy (Bethel, Conn.), starting in his final game at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field, gave up two runs on three hits in the first inning. Bryant freshman Kevin Brown singled on the first pitch of the game and scored on a single by Nick Campbell. Campbell scored on a base hit by Dylan Stone. Bryant pushed across another run in the third when Brown led off the inning with walk before moving to third on a pair of ground outs and scored on a wild pitch.

From there, Oskandy cruised through the next three innings, allowing just two baserunners over the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. In the seventh, Oskandy retired the first two batters he faced before Connor Carignan reached on a throwing error. He scored on Brown's third hit of the afternoon, a rocket through the right side of the infield. Oskandy retired the final seven batters he faced to close out the game.

Quinnipiac and Bryant will meet again on Friday, May 14 for a pair of seven-inning games set for a 12 p.m. start at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. They close-out their Northeast Conference series on Saturday, May 15 with a nine-inning game schedule for a 12 p.m. start.
