Baseball's Joe Poletsky Named To All-Northeast Conference Second Team

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University junior Joe Poletsky (Riverside, Conn.) was named to the All-Northeast Conference Second Team, as announced by the conference office at the annual banquet on the eve of the start of the 2010 Northeast Conference Baseball Tournament. Poletsky set career-highs in several categories, while also leading the Bobcats in NEC play.

For the year, Poletsky batted .318 (62-195) with career-highs in hits (62), doubles (14), RBI (38) and runs scored (31). Poletsky also ranked among the NEC leaders in each category, while also ranking among the team leaders in slugging percentage (.421), walks and on-base percentage (.374). Poletsky ranked second on the team with 18 multiple-hit games, as well as 10 multiple-RBI outings. Against Northeast Conference teams, Poletsky led Quinnipiac in hits (37), doubles (12), RBI (26) while also scoring 20 runs.

Poletsky opened the year with four multiple-hit games in his first five outings of the season against North Carolina State and Duke, including a 5-for-7 stretch in his first two games of his junior season. Poletsky returned from the Bobcats Mid-Atlantic trip with a three-RBI outing against Holy Cross. In a four-game non-conference slate during the first week of April, Poletsky went on a tear against Brown, Dartmouth and Fairfield, collecting eight hits in 16 at-bats while also driving in three runs in four games.

Poletsky also put together a nine-game hitting streak against NEC schools Sacred Heart, Long Island and Central Connecticut State, in which he also drove in a team-best 10 runs over the nine games. He was also 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored against Yale before opening up a four-game series against Central Connecticut with five hits in his first seven at-bats, while driving in three runs and scoring four more. Poletsky had a pair of three-hit showings at Fairleigh Dickinson, in which he also drove in seven runs in the series.

Poletsky is the 27th player in Quinnipiac's Division I history to be honored with an All-Northeast Conference selection and the first since Chris Gloor was named to the Second Team in 2009. He is the first position player since John Delaney was named to the First Team in 2008, also at third base.
