Quinnipiac baseball’s Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn.) was one of 36 NCAA Division I baseball student-athlete who won statistical champion in his final season with the Bobcats. Nisson won the “Toughest To Strike Out” category, after he struck out just five times in 171 at-bats.

Quinnipiac head baseball coach Dan “Skip” Gooley has announced the addition of former Bobcat John Delaney as the team’s new assistant coach. Delaney was a four-time All-Northeast Conference selection, including First Team honors in each of his final three seasons, before being drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2008 Major League Baseball Draft.

Recent Quinnipiac graduate and baseball stand-out Kyle Nisson (Wallingford, Conn.) has signed with the Worcester (Mass.) Tornadoes of the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball, otherwise known as the CanAm League. Nisson made his professional debut on Thursday, July 12 in a 2-1 win against the Gary (Ind.) SouthShore RailCats, recording a RBI in the Tornadoes’ win.

Baseball's Zak Palmer and Nick Fabrizio Earn Northeast Conference Weekly Awards
Quinnipiac baseball sophomore Zak Palmer (Mahwah, N.J.) was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week while classmate Nick Fabrizio (Peabody, Mass.) was named the NEC Pitcher of the Week. This is the second award that Palmer has earned this year while Fabrizio earns his first weekly award, and Quinnipiac’s first since Kyle Birdsall won the award on April 11, 2011.

Baseball Wins NEC Thriller Against Sacred Heart, 9-8; Guglietti Has Four Hits In Win
The Quinnipiac baseball team exploded for five runs in the top of the ninth inning, and held-off a late comeback bid by Sacred Heart, to hang on for a 9-8 Northeast Conference win at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Conn. The Bobcats improve to 6-22 in the NEC and 7-36 overall while Sacred Heart drops to 14-10 in league play and 17-27 overall. Vin Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) was 4-for-5 with a RBI triple that gave Quinnipiac the lead in the ninth while Matthew Siciliano (Ardmore, Pa.) picked up the win in relief.

The Bulldogs swept the twinbill, taking game one by the final score of 5-2 and then completed the four-game sweep with a 20-4 triumph in game two.

Junior Spencer Kane (Wolcott, Conn.) went toe-to-toe with Bryant’s Craig Schlitter in the backend of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon, but the Quinnipiac University baseball team fell short to the Bulldogs, 1-0, in extra innings to solidify a two-game sweep for the NEC’s top team. Bryant defeated the Bobcats 11-5 in game one and remains atop the Northeast Conference in the standings.

Sunday, April 21, 2012 will be Katie Vashon Day at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field. Katie Vashon was a senior from Hermon, Maine who worked in the Quinnipiac University Sports Information Department for four years before she suddenly passed away after a brief battle with leukemia in 2005. Katie was majoring in public relations and belonged to the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority as well as the School of Communications honorary society Lambda Pi Eta.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Quinnipiac University baseball team split a Northeast Conference doubleheader against Wagner at Richmond County Bank Ballpark in Staten Island, N.Y. Wagner took the first game, 7-1, before Quinnipiac responded with a 6-2 win in the second game. The win snaps a nine-game losing streak and brings Quinnipiac to 2-10 overall and 1-2 in the NEC.

The Quinnipiac University baseball team will travel to Staten Island, N.Y. this weekend to face Wagner in a four-game, Northeast Conference series at Richmond County Bank Ball Park. The Bobcats and Seahawks will play a nine-inning game on Friday, March 16 at 3 p.m., following by a pair of seven-inning games on Saturday, March 17 at 1 p.m. The Bobcats will then wrap-up its series against Wagner on Sunday, March 18 with a nine-inning game set for a 1 p.m. Start.
