The Quinnipiac University baseball team will travel South on I-95 on Tuesday, March 27 for a non-conference match-up against Fairfield at Alumni Diamond at 3 p.m. Quinnipiac enters the game with a record of 3-15 overall while Fairfield is currently 8-14 on the season.
Going For 500
With an 11-4 win against Northeast Conference opponent Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, March 23, Quinnipiac baseball head coach Dan "Skip" Gooley won his 499th career game, and 398th at Quinnipiac. Gooley also won 101 games as the head coach at University of Hartford. Gooley will have a chance to reach the 500-win and 400-win marks when the Bobcats travel to Fairfield.
Former director of athletics and men's basketball head coach Burt Kahn (459) and current men's and women's tennis head coach Mike Quitko (445) are the only other coaches in Quinnipiac history to reach 400 victories, while Gooley's 499 wins are the most career wins for any Quinnipiac coach. Gooley is currently in his 27th year coaching and 22nd at Quinnipiac. Gooley also won 101 games as University of Hartford's head baseball coach from 1988-1992.

Fairfield enters Tuesday's game with an overall record of 8-14,with one win in their last six games, a 9-3 victory against Iona this weekend in the first game of a doubleheader. Ryan Plourde is hitting at a team-high .360 (27-75) clip while also leading the team in homeruns (2), RBI (15), doubles (5), slugging percentage (.507) and on-base percentage (.435) among players who have appeared in 20 games for the Stags. Tyler Wosleger is hitting .354 (21-59) with four doubles while Larry Cornelia checks in at .323 (31-96) with a team-leading 31 hits, as well as team-highs in runs scored (16) and stolen bases (8). On the mound, Scott Warwick is 2-1 with a 3.08 ERA in five starts while Brett Shulick is 2-2 with a 5.20 ERA, also in five starts.
Nice Weekend, Rook
Freshman Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) batted a team high .438 (7-16) while driving in four runs and scoring three more in a four-game series against Fairleigh Dickinson. Guglietti also posted a team-high slugging percentage (.500) and on-base percentage (.500) while starting in all four of Quinnipiac's Northeast Conference games against Fairleigh Dickinson. Guglietti collected a hit in each game of the Bobcats' four-game set against the Knights, including two hits in three of the four games. In the first game of the series, Guglietti was 2-for-4, while driving in two runs in an 8-4 loss. He followed with a 2-for-4 showing in the second game of the doubleheader, while scoring two of Quinnipiac's runs in an 11-4 win. He then went 3-for-7 with two RBI in the Bobcats' doubleheader against FDU on Saturday. For the year, the first-year Bobcat is hitting .263 (15-57) and is second on the team with seven RBI and five runs scored.
The Four-Hit Wonder
Zak Palmer (Mahwah, N.J.) became the first player since Tim Binkoski in 2007 to record two four-hit games in the same season with a 4-for-4 day against Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, March 23. Palmer was also 4-for-4 against William & Mary on March 14.
For the year, Palmer leads Quinnipiac in batting average (.300), hits (18) and stolen bases (4) while also driving in five runs and scoring five more.
Spencer Kane (Wolcott, Conn.) picked up his second win of the season on Friday, March 23 as Quinnipiac defeated FDU, 11-4. Kane gave up four runs on eight hits over seven innings. The junior right-handed pitcher is 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA after giving up three unearned runs in 14 innings pitched in his last two starts, both coming against NEC opponents. For the year, Kane is 2-2 with a 4.88 ERA in 24 innings of work.
First of the Year
Gabe Guerino (Milford, Conn.) hit the Bobcats' first homerun of the 2012 season in Quinnipiac's 11-4 win against Fairleigh Dickinson. Guerino was 3-for-3 in the game while collected five RBI. For the year, Guerino is hitting .283 (17-60) while leading the team with eight RBI.
"Get Me Walsh"
Sophomore Ryan Walsh (Stamford, Conn.) made his first appearance of the season against Army on Wednesday, March 21, spinning two scoreless innings while giving up two hits. He came in relief in a 5-3 loss to Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday, March 24, hurling 3 2/3 innings of hitless, scoreless baseball against the Knights.
Next Up For The Bobcats
Following Tuesday's tilt at Fairfield, Quinnipiac will host Yale on Wednesday, March 28 at 3 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field. The Bobcats will then travel to New Britain, Conn. for a four-game Northeast Conference series against Central Connecticut State on Friday, March 30, Saturday, March, 31 and Sunday, April 1.
