In the eighth, CCSU's Tom Coughlin relieved Cody Brown to start the inning. Brown held Quinnipiac scoreless while scattering four hits over seven innings on the hill. Coughlin walked Dwyer to start the inning before retiring pinch-hitter Mike Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.). After Dwyer moved to second on a passed ball, Coughlin walked Jesse Ullrich (Orange, Conn.). Guglietti then lined a pitch to the left-center field gap to score Dwyer and Ullrich. After Nisson stroked his second hit, moving Guglietti to third, Zak Palmer (Mahwah, N.J.) hit a deep fly ball to right field on a passed ball and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zak Palmer (Mahwah, N.J.) down the right field line to make the score, 13-3.
In the ninth, Todd Savatsky came in to pitch in relief of Coughlin. Savatsky induced ground balls but a pair of throwing errors put Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) and Mammele on base. Dwyer followed with his third hit of the day before Blumenthal drove in Donaghue with the Bobcats fourth run of the day. Ullrich then roped a single to center field to score Mammele and load the bases for freshman pinch hitter Brian Heflin (Madison, Conn.), who hit a line drive to right field to score Blumenthal and trim the Blue Devils' lead to 13-7.
