The Quinnipiac baseball team will host the University of Massachusetts Minutemen in a non-conference match-up at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats and Minutemen will hit the field at 3 p.m. for the first pitch. Quinnipiac enters the game with an overall record of 10-29 including a 5-15 mark in the Northeast Conference while Massachusetts is 10-25 overall with a 4-11 record in Atlantic-10 play.
Scouting The UMass Minutemen
UMass comes to Hamden with a 10-25 record including one win in their last eight games. Ryan Cusick leads UMass in average (.326), hits (45) and stolen bases (20), as well as runs scored (24). Rob McLam is hitting .313 (42-134) with a team-high nine doubles and 19 runs-batted in. Adam Picard leads the team with 25 RBI, while also blasting three home runs and hitting .305 (36-118). Evan Macintosh will have the ball on the mound for UMass. Macintosh is currently 1-0 with a 6.94 ERA.
The Last Time Out
On Sunday, Apr. 28, Quinnipiac's come-back bid against Wagner fell short as the Bobcats' lost the fourth and final game of its NEC series to the Seahawks, 10-9. Quinnipiac sophomore Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) was 4-for-5 with three RBI while Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tenn.) was 2-for-4 with two RBI. Freshman Steffen Herter (Amherst, Mass.) put together a three-hit day while Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) and Forrest Dwyer (Wakefield, R.I.) both scored twice.
Quinnipiac baseball's Senior Day is slated for Saturday, May 11 when Quinnipiac hosts Central Connecticut State for its final home Northeast Conference game of the season.
On The Mound For The Bobcats
Quinnipiac senior Kevin Castodio (Pawcatuck, Conn.) will take mound of the Bobcats' non-conference tilt against UMass. Castodio is 0-2 with a 7.91 ERA, which is mostly inflated from his first start of the season last week at high-powered Dartmouth. Prior to the Bobcats' loss on Apr. 24, Castodio had given up two runs over his previous eight innings pitched in four appearances against Sacred Heart, Rhode Island, Bryant and Hartford.
With his four-hit day on Sunday, Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) now leads the team with 12 multiple-hit games, including a pair of four-hit performances. Guglietti is hitting .282 with a team-high 42 hits while also leading the team with 10 doubles. Guglietti is also hitting a team-high .368 (14-38) with runners in scoring position.
Freshman Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) currently boasts a team-best four-game hitting streak. The senior outfielder was the only player with a hit in each of Quinnipiac's games against Wagner.
Freshman Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Bobcats in hitting in their series against Wagner. The first-year designated hitter batted .400 (6-15) with a double, two RBI as well as a .467 slugging percentage and a .438 on-base percentage.
