The Quinnipiac baseball team will face Fairleigh Dickinson for a four-game Northeast Conference series in Teaneck, N.J. Free, live video will be available when the Bobcats and Knights take the field on Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18.
The two teams will play a doubleheader on both days to complete the four-game set. Quinnipiac and FDU will play a nine-inning game at 1 p.m. on Friday, followed by a seven-inning game approximately 30 minutes after the completion of Game 1. On Saturday, the two teams will square-off for a seven-inning game at 1 p.m., followed by a nine-inning game.
Quinnipiac baseball captain Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) currently sits at 192 career hits, just eight hits short of becoming the eighth player in program history, and sixth at the DI level, to reach the 200-hit mark.
Their Last Time Out
On Tuesday, May 14, Quinnipiac dropped a 6-2, non-conference decision to Fairfield at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field in its final home game of the 2013 season. Mike Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 in the game while Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) drove in a run for the Bobcats. Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) had a hit in the game to push his career total to 192 as he chases 200 career hits, with four games to play. Forrest Dwyer (Wakefield, R.I.) andDale Long (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) each scored for Quinnipiac.
The Weekend Rotation
Kevin Castodio (Pawcatuck, Conn.) is scheduled to start the first game of the series, followed by Spencer Kane (Wolcott, Conn.) in the second game. The seniors will be making their final Quinnipiac appearances of their careers. Castodio is currently 0-3 with a 8.31 ERA while Kane is 4-4 with a 3.93 ERA. Nick Fabrizio (Peabody, Mass.) is set for Saturday's seven-inning game, and enters the final weekend of the season with a record of 3-7 with a 5.64 ERA. Freshman Justin Thomas (Enfield, Conn.) is 3-1 with a 4.43 ERA.
Scouting Fairleigh Dickinson
Fairleigh Dickinson enters the weekend with a record of 11-33 overall and 6-22 in Northeast Conference play. The Knights are currently on a five-game losing streak after losing a non-conference affair to Delaware State, 6-3, after being swept by Sacred Heart on the previous weekend. Kyle Weeks is the Knights' lone batter hitting over .300. Weeks checks in at .320 (49-153) with a team-high 12 RBI and 21 RBI as well as a .399 slugging percentage and a .425 on-base percentage. Riley Noonan leads the team with 26 runs scored and four stolen bases to go along with his 46 hits for a .275 batting average.
Leading The Way
Sophomore shortstop Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) has been doing it with the bat all season, currently leading the team with a .298 (51-171) average as well as leading the team in home runs (4), RBI (35) and slugging percentage (.427). In 28 NEC games, Donaghue is hitting .290 (27-93) with 22 RBI.
Playing in his final series of his collegiate career, Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) enters the weekend with a .287 (47-164) batting average to go along with three home runs, 18 RBI and nine doubles. Migani leads the team with 33 runs scored.
The Big Hurt
Quinnipiac sophomore Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) checks in at .273 (51-187) while he and Donaghue are tied for the team lead with 51 hits. Guglietti also leads the team with 12 doubles while his 22 runs scored rank second. He also has two home runs and 18 RBI to his credit.
Quinnipiac has heated up over its last 10 games, posting a 4-6 record while posting season highs in batting average (.298), hits (91), doubles (12), home runs (10) and runs scored (55) over any 10-game stretch this season. Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, Pa.) has stroked a team-high 13 hits in the span - that also featured a five-hit day against CCSU last weekend - while Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) has driven in 14 runs in the span. Chris Migani (Orange, Conn.) has scored nine runs over the last 10 games.
