QU Baseball To Open MAAC Play Against Manhattan At Van Cortlandt Park

The Quinnipiac University baseball team will play Manhattan in a three-game MAAC series at Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, N.Y. The Bobcats and the Jaspers are both 2-13 overall and 0-0 in the MAAC. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 22 beginning at 12 p.m. and a single game on Sunday, Mar. 23 at 12 p.m. The three-games series will feature Quinnipiac as the home team.

Scouting The Jaspers
Christian Santisteban (.315 (15-48) one homer, five doubles, and three RBI) and Brendan Slattery (.282 (11-39) one double and five RBI) lead the way offensively for Manhattan.  Michael Martin (0-2, 1 sv, 2.50 ERA, and 10 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched) and Joey Rocchietti (1-2, 3.42, and 13 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings pitched) have anchored the pitching staff for the Jaspers so far in 2014.  Junior right-handed pitcher Sean Abbate earned MAAC Pitcher of the Week honors last week. Abbate entered the game in relief against NYIT, throwing 5 1/3 hitless innings to help lift the Jaspers to a 2-0 win at Brooklyn's MCU Park. Abbate allowed just one hit batter during his stellar performance. He struck out seven batters and ultimately earned his first victory of the season.

Blazing Blumenthal
Senior Mike Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.) heads into the weekend hitting a team-high .429 (12-28) on the season.  Blumenthal currently boasts his team-, season-best hitting streak to eight games in which he is hitting a gawdy .562 (9-16) in the span.

Red Hot Ruditys
Junior Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, PA) in his last three games has five hits and three runs scored.  Ruditys is hitting .341 (14-41) with three doubles, four RBI, and eight runs scored on the season. Ruditys now leads the team with five mutliple-hit games.

Steady Guglietti
Junior Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn) has continued his hot hitting since the beginning of the season leading the team in doubles (8), RBI (8), runs scored (10), and hits (19) while posting the second highest average on the team at .345. 

Their Last Time Out
On Tuesday, Mar. 18, the Bobcats fell to Fordham, 8-6, in a midweek matchup at Houlihan Park in Bronx, N.Y. Senior Mike Blumenthal (Dix Hills, N.Y.) led the Bobcats offensively, going 3-for-5 with one run scored, one RBI, and two stolen bases. Juniors Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, PA) and Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn), along with sophomore Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and freshman Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Conn), all had two hits for the day. 

What's Up Next?
Following its three-game set against Manhattan, Quinnipiac will play at Central Connecticut State on Tuesday, Mar. 25 before hosting Yale on Wednesday, Mar. 26 and Rider for a three-game MAAC series on Mar. 29-30 at the Quinnipiac Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn.
