The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost to Radford, 7-5, in the second game of their three-game series in Radford, Virginia. The Bobcats fall to 15-20 on the season while Radford goes to 24-17.
Mike Palladino (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) was 2-for-5 with three RBI while Lou Iannotti (North Haven, Conn.), Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) and Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Conn.) all collected two hits apiece. Quinnipiac starter Justin Thomas (Enfield, Conn.) dropped to 1-2 on the season after the Highlanders struck for six runs over five innings. Joe Scaglione (Wyckoff, N.J.) gave up a run over two innings while Matthew Oseija (Wyckoff, N.J.) pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Radford took a three-run lead in the bottom of the first inning before Quinnipiac put two runs across in the top of the second inning. Palladino stung a 2-and-2 offering to drive home Donaghue and Oestreicher, who led off the inning with hits. The Bobcats tied the game when Iannotti connected for his second home run of the season to lead off the top of the third.
Radford re-took the lead in the bottom half of the inning when it pushed three runs across to jump out to a 6-3 lead. They pushed it to 7-3 in the sixth.
In the eighth, Rob Pescitelli (Bayshore, N.Y.) doubled to lead off the inning before Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tenn.) singled to third and Donaghue dropped down a bunt and beat out the play for a single to load the bases. Oestreicher then singled to left to score Pescitelli before Palladino drove in Nelson to pull the Bobcats within two runs, 7-5.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Sunday, Apr. 27 when it concludes its three-game series at Radford at 12 Noon.
