The Quinnipiac University baseball team lost to Radford, 10-2, in the final game of its three-game set in Radford, Virginia. Quinnipiac drops to 15-21 on the season while Radford improves to 25-17.
Quinnipiac was held to just four hits on the afternoon as Lou Iannotti (North Haven, Conn.), Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Conn.) Ryan Nelson (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Scott Donaghue (Marlboro, N.J.) were the only players to hit safely. Donaghue was 1-for-2 with a RBI and a run scored while Guglietti also scored for the Bobcats. Brian Ruditys (Boothwyn, Pa.) drove in a run for Quinnipiac.
On the mound, Brandon Shileikis (North Dighton, Mass.) took the loss after Radford scored five runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. For Radford, Josh Reavis, Blake Sipe and Patrick Marshall both collected two hits while driving in two runs each. Alexander Lee was 2-for-3 with three RBI, coming off his third homer of the season.
Radford scored twice in the first inning, and added another run, to take a 3-0 lead through two innings. In the fourth, Guglietti led off with a single up the middle before moving to third on a one-out double by Nelson to put runners on the corners for Donaghue. Donaghue drove a fly ball to left field deep enough to score Guglietti with the sacrifice fly.
Radford tacked on two more runs in the fifth to take a 5-1 lead. In the seventh, Donaghue led off the inning with a double to left field before moving to third on a ground-out to second base by Matthew Oestreicher (North Haven, Conn.). Ruditys then hit a ground ball to short that scored Donaghue, who was off on contact.
Radford added a run in the bottom half of the inning before erupting for four runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Wednesday, Apr. 30 when it travels to Amherst, Mass. to take on the University of Massachusetts. Quinnipiac will return home on May 3-4 to host Canisius for a three-game Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference series at the QU Baseball Field in Hamden, Conn. Senior Day festivities will be held before the start of the first game on Sunday, May 4.
