Baseball's Vincent Guglietti and Thomas Jankins Honored By NECBL

North Adams, Mass.  – The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) honored two Quinnipiac baseball players for their performances during the 2014 season. Starting pitcher Thomas Jankins (West Brookfield, Massachusetts) was named the Robin Roberts Best Starting Pitcher, as well as All-NECBL First Team while Vincent Guglietti (East Haven, Connecticut) was named the Most Improved Player in the league as well as All-NECBL Second Team.

Jankins finished the season a perfect 5-0 while breaking the league record with a 0.41 ERA, allowing just two earned runs in 44 1/3 innings. He appeared in 11 games, starting five games, and struck out 41 batters while issuing just eight walks. Jankins also possessed the lowest WHIP amongst pitchers at 0.68.

Guglietti was one of the top offensive performers in the 2014 season, finishing in the top three in the league in nearly every offensive category. He finished the summer with a .303 batting average, .363 on-base percentage, .486 slugging percentage and a .849 OPS. Guglietti was the one of three players in the league to play all 42 regular-season games and finished second in the league with seven home runs.He finished with 53 hits, nine doubles, 27 runs scored, 38 RBI and 16 walks.

The duo also participated in the NECBL All-Star Game in July, where Jankins was also named the starting pitcher of the game for the Southern Division.Guglietti was named the NECBL Player of the Week for the first week of the season.

Jankins and Guglietti both played for the Plymouth Pilgrims, who were eliminated from the NECBL Playoffs in the Southern Division Championship three-game series, 2-1, to the Newport Gulls, the eventual league champion. The Pilgrims finished 31-11 in the regular season, just one win shy of the NECBL record for wins in the regular season.
