HAMDEN, Conn. - The Quinnipiac University field hockey team lost to Rider University, 1-0, in overtime in a Northeast Conference field hockey game at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field in Hamden, Conn. The Bobcats drop to 5-7 overall and 1-1 in the Northeast Conference while Rider improves to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Junior Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) stopped nine of 10 shots on goal for the Bobcats, including eight through regulation. Rider's offense countered a fierce Quinnipiac defense, putting five shots on Lewis with no success.
Alicia Govannicci scored her fifth goal of the season 10:03 into overtime to give the Broncs the win. Virginia Egusquiza dribbled through the top of the circle and made a pass around a Quinnipiac defender. The ball found Govannicci's tape and allowed her to flip a shot past Lewis for the game-winner. Egusquiza was credited with her team-leading 13th assist of the season.
The Bobcats return to action on Sunday, Oct. 17 when they host Monmouth in a Northeast Conference match-up scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn.
