HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac field hockey senior Tina Watkins (Sweet Valley, Pa.) was one of three Northeast Conference players named to the 2010 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-Mideast Region team. Watkins was previously named to the All-Northeast Conference First Team.
Watkins, who completed career as a senior captain in 2010, was named to the All-NEC First Team for the first time in her four years at Quinnipiac. Watkins handled all penalty corner duties, picking up assists on all five of Quinnipiac's special teams conversions. Watkins anchored a Quinnipiac defense that allowed the third fewest total goals (44) goals per game (2.57) in the NEC. In seven NEC games, the Quinnipiac defense held the opposition to just 10 goals.
Watkins had an outstanding year for the Bobcats offensively after spending the first three years in Hamden as one of the more underrated defensive specialists in the conference. The fourth-year captain tallied career-best numbers, racking up two goals and 11 points that included a team-leading seven assists.
Watkins' top games this year, offensively, came in a 4-3 loss to Yale on Sept. 5 when she passed out a pair of assists for her first multiple-point game. She had two additional multiple-point outings, in back-to-back games, against Lafayette in a 3-1 win on Sept. 26 and a 4-2 win against Brown on Oct. 5.
