The Quinnipiac field hockey finished 2nd out of nine teams at the 6th Annual Longstreth Spring Cup hosted by Quinnipiac University at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn. Jess Rusin (Garwood, N.J.) accounted for half of Quinnipiac's goals in a three-goal, one-assist showing at the tournament while Kaitlyn Notarianni (Clarks Summit, Pa.) had a pair of assists. Kim Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) had a goal and an assist.
Yale took first place with a 4-0 showing, while the Bobcats finished second at 3-1. Monmouth (2-1-1) was third, followed by Columbia and Sacred Heart - both 1-1-2. Brown (1-3), Holy Cross (1-3) and Fairfield (0-3) rounded out the field of nine.
Quinnipiac won its first game of the day, 1-0, against Sacred Heart on a goal by Rusin with an assist going to Notarianni. In a 2-1 loss to Brown, Amanda Danziger (Smithtown, N.Y.) scored the Bobcats only goal, with Notarianni picking up another helper on the goal. In a 3-0 win against Holy Cross, Rusin scored twice and also assisted on a goal by Kacie McCreesh (Perkasie, Pa.). Rusin's first goal came off a rebound from a corner while her second came on a redirect from a corner with Cunniff picking up a point on the play. Rusin then hit McCreesh off with a cross pass that resulted in McCreesh's marker.
In the final game of the day, a 1-0 win against Columbia, the Bobcats scored on a blast from Cunniff on a straight shot with assists going to Megan McCreedy (White River, South Africa) and Maria Malonoski (Phoenixville, Pa.).
