Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) and Jess Rusin (Garwood, N.J.) both scored their team-leading eighth goals of the season but the Quinnipiac field hockey team lost to Brown, 3-2, in non-conference play. Quinnipiac drops to 6-5 on the season while Brown improves to 2-8.
Cunniff put Quinnipiac on the board just under nine minutes into the game when she beat Brown's Shannon McSweeney with a direct shot off a corner. Ashley Gradwell (Fogelsville, Pa.) took the corner and found Megan McCreedy at the top of the circle to set up Cunniff. McCreedy's assist was her team-leading eighth of the season.
Brown rattled off three unanswered goals as Meaghan O'Donnell scored before halftime to tie the game, 1-1. Kit Masini and Clayton Christus added goals in the second before Rusin scored in the 56th minute to pull Quinnipiac within a goal.
Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) made seven saves in the game.
Quinnipiac is back in action on Friday, Oct. 7 when it hosts Robert Morris at 3:30 p.m. and St. Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 12 p.m. Sunday's game will be Quinnipiac's annual "Play 4 The Cure" game to benefit the Susan G. Komen Fund.
