HAMDEN, Conn. - Senior Megan McCreedy (White River, South Africa) recorded her 13th assist of the year, and 25th of her career, to break Quinnipiac's single-season and career records as the Bobcats defeated Bryant, 2-0, at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey & Lacrosse Turf Field. With the win, Quinnipiac improves to 4-2 in the Northeast Conference and 10-7 overall while Bryant drops to 7-10 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) had a goal and an assist in the win for the Bobcats, while Danielle Allan (Riverdale, N.J.) also scored. Cunniff also becomes just the third player in program history to reach 30 points in a season, joining Julie Smith and Heather Cady, who both accomplished the feat in 2001. Cunniff's 13 goals this season are also the most since 2001, when Smith scored 15 times, and the second most in Quinnipiac history, tying Catie Canetti's 1999 goal total.
Allan's goal came at the 19 minute mark when, off a corner, Cunniff blasted a shot on goal that was stopped by Bryant's Jennifer Gullotti. Allan picked up the loose ball and slipped it past the Bulldogs' keeper to put Quinnipiac on top, 1-0.
Cunniff scored in the 31st minute, once again on a corner. McCreedy received a pass from Maria Malonoski (Phoenixville, Pa.) on the left side of the circle. McCreedy then fired a pass across the top of the circle to Cunniff who fired a shot past Gullotti to give Quinnipiac a two-goal cushion.
Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.) stopped all three of Bryant's shots-on-goal for her second shutout of the season.
The Bobcats conclude the regular season on Friday, Oct. 28 when they host in-state rival, Sacred Heart University, in a Northeast Conference match-up at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey and Lacrosse Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn.
