HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac field hockey freshman Danielle Allan (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) was named the Northeast Conference Co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week. The first year Bobcat matched the efforts of two-time NEC Player of the Year Virginia Egusquiza of Rider with a two-goal, one-assist outing against Holy Cross on Friday, Aug. 26 in the Bobcats' 6-2 season-opening win.
Allan is the 24th player in Quinnipiac history to earn NEC Player of the Week honors and the 16th player in program history to be named Rookie of the Week.
Allan became the first player in Quinnipiac's Division I history to score twice in her collegiate debut. Allan had a hand in the Bobcats' first three goals of their triumph against Holy Cross, setting up senior Kaitlyn Notarianni with the nation's first goal of the 2011 season before scoring twice to give Quinnipiac a two-goal lead heading into halftime.
Allan is a former stand-out at Pompton Lakes (N.J.) High School where she holds the career record for goals (144), assists (56) and points (344). The two-time North Jersey Field Hockey Player of the Year led Pompton Lakes to four-straight league championships and the Northeast Field Hockey League Division I Championship as a senior when she broke the single-season record for goals with 56.
