HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac senior captain Kimberly Cunniff (Walpole, Mass.) was named the Northeast Conference Field Hockey Player of the Week, as announced by the league office. Cunniff totaled nine points on four goals and an assist in wins against Lehigh and Harvard, factoring into five of Quinnipiac’s seven goals for the week.
Cunniff currently leads the NEC in goals scored (6) and goals per game (1.80) while also ranking second in total points (13) and fifth in points per game (2.17). This is Cunniff’s second Player of the Week honor of her career after she received the NEC award last season on Sept. 27, 2010. Teammate Danielle Allen (Riverdale, N.J.) also received the award on Aug. 29, 2011.
Against Lehigh, Cunniff had the first hat trick of her career, scoring all three goals in a 3-2 victory against the Mountain Hawks. Cunniff’s final goal came with the clock expired as she blasted shot past Lehigh’s keeper to break a 2-2 tie and give the Bobcats the dramatic victory. Against Harvard on Sunday, Cunniff scored the game’s first goal and also assisted on Megan McCreedy’s first goal of the season to give Quinnipiac a 2-0 lead.
Quinnipiac is back in action this week when it travels to Columbia on Wednesday, Sept. 21 before hosting Maine on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m.
