Field Hockey Announces 2012 Schedule

2012 Schedule

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac field hockey head coach Becca Main has announced the Bobcats' 2012 schedule, which features eight home games at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn. Quinnipiac finished the 2011 season at 11-8 overall and 5-2 in the Northeast Conference, clinching the third seed in the NEC Tournament.

The Bobcats' non-conference slate features games against Holy Cross, Towson, Boston College, Yale, Vermont, St. Joseph's, Lafayette, Maine, American, Brown and Harvard through September before opening NEC play against Sacred Heart in October.

"Our non-conference competitions this year includes the return of some teams from our past finding their way back onto our schedule," Main said.  "Towson and Vermont are additions after many years of not playing them and we added American and St. Joseph's to the regular season schedule for the first time ever. We are looking forward to new rivalries with these teams and we will continue with our long-standing competitions with Yale, Maine, Lafayette  and Boston College.  The conference schedule will have us gunning for Rider and Monmouth and interstate rival Sacred Heart."

The Bobcats' first competition of the 2012 season falls on Thursday, Aug. 16 when Quinnipiac travels to Storrs, Conn. for an exhibition game against nationally-ranked BIG EAST powerhouse Connecticut at 12 p.m. UConn qualified for the 2011 NCAA Tournament, advancing to the bracket's semifinals. The Bobcats will then play a second exhibition on Sunday, Aug. 19 at Providence at 1 p.m.

Quinnipiac opens its regular season on the road when it heads to Worcester, Mass. to face Holy Cross on Aug. 24 at 11 a.m. The Bobcats' home-opener takes place on Sunday, Aug. 26 when they host Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) Tournament participant Towson at 12 p.m. before closing out the month with a home game against nationally-ranked Boston College at 3:30 p.m. The Eagles were a 2011 Atlantic 10 Tournament participant and featured wins against nationally-ranked UConn and New Hampshire.

September will feature three straight games on the road at New Haven County foe and 2011 Ivy League Champion Yale on Sunday, Sept. 2; Vermont on Sunday, Sept. 9 and St. Joseph's on Friday, Sept. 14. The Bobcats return home to face Lafayette on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 12 p.m. before traveling to 2011 nationally-ranked Maine on Friday, Sept. 21. The Bobcats will then host their final two non-conference home games against American, who advanced to the Patriot League semifinals in 2011, on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 12 p.m. and Brown on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 4 p.m. Quinnipiac then closes the month on the road at Harvard on Sunday, Sept. 30.

Oct. 7 marks the first NEC competition of the year when Quinnipiac travels to in-state rival Sacred Heart at 12 p.m. The Bobcats then host Monmouth on Friday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. and two-time NEC Champion Rider on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 12 p.m. After a travel weekend at Robert Morris on Friday, Oct. 19 and at 2011 NEC Tournament participant Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday, Oct. 21, the Bobcats will host Siena for its final regular-season game of the season on Friday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. with Senior Day ceremonies slated for that afternoon's game. Quinnipiac will play its final regular-season game at Bryant on Sunday, Oct. 28 with the NEC Tournament scheduled for Nov. 2-3 at the site of the highest seed.
