HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac field hockey team lost to No. 17 Boston College, 2-0, in a non-conference match-up at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn. The loss is the Bobcats first of the season as they drop to 2-1 while Boston College improves to 3-0.

Boston College scored twice in the first half, with a goal by Nicole Shuster just 29-seconds into the game to give the Eagles an early lead. The Bobcats then held Boston College off the board until the 34th minute when Sarah Hospodar scored to give BC a 2-0 lead with 42-seconds remaining in the first half. Shuster's goal came on a blast just inside the arc while Hospodar cleaned up a scrum in front of the goal and poked the ball past Quinnipiac keeper Nicole Lewis (East Amherst, N.Y.)

Quinnipiac was outshot in the first half, 9-4, before tilting the field to outshoot the Eagles in the second half, 11-4. The Bobcats also held the edge on corners. While the Eagles earned a 5-1 advantage in the category in the first half, Quinnipiac held the advantage in the second half at 8-2.

After Shuster scored in the first minute, Lewis turned back the next six shots on goal, including several that came off of corner plays. The always-agile Lewis made several sprawling saves while also swatting away two shots with her blocker. She stopped the only shot on goal in the second half by Boston College.

Quinnipiac is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 2 when it travels to New Haven, Conn. to take on Yale in a non-conference match-up set for 1 p.m. at Reese Field.
