HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac fifth-year senior Kristin Engelke (Medford, N.J.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 3, as announced by the conference office. Engelke is the first Quinnipiac student-athlete to win a weekly award from the MAAC.
Engelke currently leads the Bobcats in goals (2) and points (5) after accumulating her tallies against nationally-ranked No. 5 Syracuse and La Salle at the Asics Invitational hosted by Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. this past weekend. For her efforts in the Bobcats' 1-1 weekend, Engelke was named to the all-tournament team.
In the Bobcats' season-opening loss to Syracuse on Friday, Aug. 30, Engelke scored Quinnipiac's only goal in the 5-1 decision. Engelke converted on a corner attempt after time had expired in regulation.
Against La Salle in the consolation game, Engelke scored the game-winner against the Explorers, while also assisting on another goal, in a 6-4 win. Engelke's goal was her 14th of her career, moving her into 17th place all-time at Quinnipiac.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Thursday, Sept. 5 when it takes on nationally-ranked No. 16 Boston College at 7 p.m. in Newton, Mass. The Bobcats then host Maine for its first home contest of the 2013 season on Sunday, Sept. 8 at 12 p.m. at the Quinnipiac Field Hockey Turf Complex in Hamden, Conn.
