HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University field hockey team will be sponsoring a "Be the Match" Bone Marrow Registry Drive at the QU Athletics and Recreation Center Pep Band room in Hamden. Anyone interested in registering with the National Marrow Donor Program is invited to join the Bobcats on Wednesday, April 2 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., as part of QU's Positive Play Initiative.
Registration is simple, and involves completing a health history form and giving a swab of cheek cells. A person must be between the ages of 18 and 44, meet the health guidelines and be willing to donate to any patient in need. Donors with diverse racial or ethnic backgrounds are especially critical. Individuals will become a member of the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP) "Be The Match" registry. If you match, most donations are done through an automated blood donation – no surgery needed. For more details on registering, you can find information at www.bethematch.org.
