Acrobatics and Tumbling Falls to Baylor, 262.475-258.65

WACO, Tx.- The Quinnipiac Acrobatics and Tumbling team fell to the Baylor Bears, 262.475-258.65, on Sunday, March 10, at the Farrell Center.  The Bobcats drop to 1-1, as Baylor improves to 2-2 so far this season.  Despite the loss, Quinnipiac collected two out of the six events in the meeting, Toss and Team.

"Freshman Taylor Johnson (Foxbro, Mass.) was unstoppable from the minute we entered Baylor's arena," said head coach Maryann Powers. "She got us some incredible scores.  She remained focused and kept her head in the game.  Sophomore Stephanie Palange (West Springfield, Mass.) and senior Chivon Forrester (Hackensack, N.J.) worked tirelessly to keep the energy alive.

Baylor was able to gain control of the first half sweeping the Bobcats in all three events, Compulsory, Acro and Pyramid.  Quinnipiac fell short by just two tenths of a point 37.3-37.1, in the Compulsory event.  The heats were almost too close to call as the Bears matched the Bobcats Compulsory Acro heat posting a matching, 9.25 tally.  The Bobcats won the Compulsory Basket Heat to finish with a total of 9.85, however it was not enough for them to take the event.

The Bears would take the following two events of the half, Acro and Pyramid.  Baylor led in Acro, 27.4, - 25.15.  The Pyramid was just the same, as the Bears swept the competition in all heats, 28.0 - 26.95.  The Bobcats could only watch as they went into halftime, 92.7-89.2, a 3.5 deficit.

Quinnipiac returned to the mats after the break with more focus as they captured their first event of the evening, Toss, 26.1-25.85.  The Bobcats scored a 9.35 in the Laid Out Body Position heat compared to Baylor who only marked an 8.55.  Quinnipiac added to the heat marking an 8.95 score in the Duo Basket Toss to the Bears score, 8.85.

Despite the teams efforts Quinnipiac fell in the Tumbling exercise 54.775-52.0, as their competitor conquered all heats.  The Bobcats would go on to win the Team event 91.35-89.15 however it was not enough as the Bears secured a 262.4575-258.65 win for their second victory of the season.

Quinnipiac will look to rebound on Wednesday, March 13, as they take on Azusa Pacific and Fairmont University for their first tri-meet of the season in Azusa, Calif.   The meet will begin at 7 p.m. in the Felix Event Center.
