HAMDEN, Conn. The Quinnipiac University men's basketball team welcomed fifth and sixth grade students from Bishop Woods Elementary School in New Haven for a "college day" at the university on Thursday. Quinnipiac coaches and student-athletes showed the kids the school and athletic facilities in the same way that they'd present the school to a prospective basketball recruit on a visit. The coaches also put on a mini basketball clinic for the kids.
"Overall, it was a fantastic experience for the kids," said Bishop Woods physical education teacher Ray Pompano. "It really added a lot of validity to what we're trying to teach them. Coming from an inner city environment, they don't get to see that kind of life and experience. For Quinnipiac to offer that experience to us at no cost, it was a truly memorable experience for the kids. They really enjoyed it and continue to talk about it in class."
