Justin Rutty Named Choice Hotels NEC Co-Player of the Week

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University men's basketball junior forward Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) has been named Choice Hotels NEC Co-Player of the Week after averaging a double-double for the Bobcats last week. Joining Rutty in receiving the award was Mount St. Mary's senior guard Jeremy Goode.

The Preseason All-NEC selection returned to 2008-09 form in averaging 21.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in the Bobcats' 1-1 week. He began the week with 19 points on 9-for-12 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, Wednesday at Lehigh. He was then downright dominating at Yale, compiling his first double-double of the year with 23 points and 14 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass, on Saturday night.

The nation's top returning offensive rebounder (4.6 offensive rebounds per game) is now averaging 5.0 offensive boards per game. Only current San Antonio Spurs forward DeJuan Blair (5.6 offensive rebounds per game at Pittsburgh in 2008-09) eclipsed Rutty's offensive rebounding average last season.
