Men's Basketball Defeats Charenton, 75-69CHARENTON, France - Senior Deontay Twyman (Olney, Md.) scored a game-high 19 points and freshman Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) added his second double-double as the Quinnipiac University men's basketball team defeated St. Charles Charenton St. Maurice, 75-69, Saturday night at Nelson Pavillou in suburban Paris. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 2-1 on their European Tour.
Azotam had 10 points and 11 rebounds to complete his second double-double in the three games the Bobcats have played in Europe. Raheem May-Thompson (London, England) added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Jamee Jackson (Newark, N.J.) added 10 points and nine rebounds. Dave Johnson (Jackson, N.J.) also contributed nine points and nine assists, while Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) had eight points and four steals for Quinnipiac.
The Bobcats ended the first quarter on a 13-2 run to turn a two-point deficit into a nine-point lead, and would never trail again. Johnson was instrumental in the run, scoring five points and assisting on three other made field goals to contribute directly to 12 of the 13 points in the pivotal run.
Quinnipiac maintained an eight-point cushion at the halftime break and extended the lead to as many as 13 points in the third quarter on William Harrison's (Bronx, N.Y.) fast-break dunk with 2:30 left in the period. Charenton battled back to twice cut the Bobcats' lead down to four points in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, but couldn't draw any closer.
For the game, Charenton edged the Bobcats from the floor, 42.9 percent (21-49) to 42.6 percent (26-61), while also outshooting Quinnipiac, 38.9 percent (7-18) to 23.8 percent (5-21) from long range and 62.5 percent (20-32) to 54.5 percent (18-33) from the free-throw line. The Bobcats enjoyed a 46-31 advantage on the glass, including a 19-5 disparity on the offensive boards.
The Bobcats conclude their European Tour when they face Cergy, Monday night in suburban Paris. Opening tip is scheduled for 8 p.m. (European)/2 p.m. (ET).
