Rutty, Langston Sweep NEC Weekly Awards

HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac University men's basketball senior Justin Rutty (Newburgh, N.Y.) and freshman Dominique Langston (Bridgeport, Conn.) have been named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after leading the Bobcats to wins against defending Patriot League Champion Lehigh and perennially-powerful Rhode Island of the Atlantic 10 Conference.

The award is the fifth of Rutty's career and the second of the year, following his honor on Nov. 15. Langston's honor is the first of his career, as he joins fellow Bobcats freshman Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) in taking the award (Nov. 29) already this season.

Langston averaged 7.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 block per game in the Bobcats' two wins this week. The freshman didn't let an off shooting night affect his overall game Tuesday, scoring just three points, but adding a Quinnipiac team season-high 14 rebounds. He also added five assists and two blocks. He then scored 12 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists against Rhode Island. In the Bobcats' decisive 12-0 second-half run against Rhode Island, Langston scored or assisted on nine of the 12 points (five points, two assists). For the season, Langston is averaging 7.3 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 25.1 minutes per game off the bench.

The Bobcats return to action following first-semester final exams, Dec. 22, when they travel to Niagara University, N.Y., to take on Niagara. Opening tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the John J. "Taps" Gallagher Center.
