Men’s Basketball Announces 2011-12 Schedule

2011-12 Men's Basketball Schedule

HAMDEN, Conn. – In search of a third straight national postseason tournament berth and another 20-win season, Quinnipiac University Men's Basketball Head Coach Tom Moore has lined up an exciting schedule for the 2011-12 season. Home contests against local rival Yale, 2011 America East Champion Boston University, Navy and Niagara highlight the non-conference schedule. In addition to an always-competitive Northeast Conference docket, the Bobcats face 2011 MAAC Regular Season Champion Fairfield in the Third Annual Connecticut 6 Classic at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and travel to American, Lehigh, Hartford, Vermont and Massachusetts.

As the Bobcats' television schedule for the 2011-12 season has not been announced yet, the schedule is subject to change. Bobcat fans should refer to the Official Website of Quinnipiac Athletics, www.QuinnipiacBobcats.com, for the latest schedule changes as well as up-to-the-minute news, scores and highlights.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Ticket Office at the TD Bank Sports Center or by calling the ticket office at 203-582-3905. Bobcat fans can also buy tickets online by visiting the Official Website of Quinnipiac Atheltics, www.QuinnipiacBobcats.com

"I am excited about our 2011-12 schedule, as we feel we've lined up a nice collection of some of the strongest basketball and academic schools in the Northeast," said Moore. "Our non-conference opponents include Atlantic 10 power, UMass, and conference champions Fairfield from the MAAC and Boston University from the America East."

Quinnipiac has led the Northeast Conference in average home attendance in each of the last two years, and three of Moore's four seasons at the helm, creating a strong home-court advantage for the Bobcats. The increased fan support during the past two seasons has resulted in a 30-7 (.811) record for Quinnipiac at the TD Bank Sports Center.

"As we prepare to try to qualify for a third straight national postseason tournament, I am proud of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and basketball fans in the New Haven area who have helped Quinnipiac lead the NEC in average home attendance in three of the last four years. The loyal support and enthusiasm they have brought to the TD Bank Sports Center has certainly helped us win over 80 percent of our home games in the last two seasons."

The Bobcats open the season on Friday, Nov. 11, against Fairfield at the Connecticut 6 Classic, once again being played at Mohegan Sun Arena. A second consecutive Connecticut foe follows on Nov. 15, when intrastate rival Yale plays on the Quinnipiac campus for the first time in the two teams' histories. The Bobcats lead the all-time series, 3-0, with previous meetings being played at the XL Center in Hartford, Mohegan Sun Arena and Yale's John J. Lee Amphitheater.

Quinnipiac will look for a measure of revenge against Navy, Nov. 19 at the TD Bank Sports Center. In the teams' prior meeting in Nov. 2009, Midshipman Chris Harris hit a half-court buzzer beater to defeat the Bobcats after Quinnipiac had held Navy without a field goal for the prior 10:30 of regulation. The pairing was the first in the histories of the two programs.

After back-to-back road contests at American and Lehigh on Nov. 22 and 28, respectively, Quinnipiac opens Northeast Conference play with a Dec. 1 meeting with intrastate rival Sacred Heart. Bryant then visits Hamden on Dec. 3.

After three straight road contests against New England foes Hartford, Vermont and UMass on Dec. 6, 11 and 17, respectively, the Bobcats play host to traditionally-strong Niagara on Dec. 22 at the TD Bank Sports Center. Following a road tilt at Colgate on Dec. 28, defending America East Champion Boston University visits York Hill on Dec. 31.

The remainder of the regular season will feature Northeast Conference competition. Home contests include a Jan. 7 pairing with 2011 NEC Champion Long Island, while Mount St. Mary's visits the TD Bank Sports Center on Jan. 26. Wagner comes to town on Jan. 28, while Central Connecticut follows on Feb. 8, St. Francis (N.Y.) on Feb. 16, Robert Morris on Feb. 23 and Saint Francis (Pa.) on Feb. 25.

The Northeast Conference Tournament will once again be played at higher seeds. The quarterfinals are scheduled for Thursday, March 1, with the semifinals and championship following on Sunday, March 4 and Wednesday, March 7, respectively.
