HAMDEN, Conn. – Sophomore forward Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University men's basketball team has been named the Choice Hotels/NEC Player of the Week, announced on Monday, November 21, 2011 by the league office. Azotam averaged 16 points and 16 rebounds last week, as he helped the Bobcats to a 2-0 record with victories over Yale and Navy.
The Boston, MA native matched a career-high with 17 points and set a new career-high with 18 boards, including nine on the offensive end, in a 68-62 win over Yale last Tuesday. He followed that performance with another double-double against Navy on Saturday, where he poured in 15 points to go along with 14 rebounds. Overall, he shot 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the floor.
He is currently tied for first in the nation and leads the NEC in rebounds per game (14.0), while contributing 16.3 points per outing. He also ranks eighth in the league in scoring, fifth in blocked shots (1.7) and 10th in field goal percentage (.563).
