HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior James Johnson (Queens, N.Y.) and sophomore Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) of the Quinnipiac University men's basketball were tabbed to the CollegeHoops.Net November NEC All-Conference Team, announced by Jon Teitel on Thursday, December 1, 2011. Johnson and Azotam paced the Bobcats' offense through the opening month, leading the team to triumphs against Yale and Navy.
Johnson, now in his senior season with the Bobcats, averaged 19 points, four rebounds and 3.3 assists in four games through November. In his first game, he tallied 25 points in a 68-62 win against New Haven County rival, Yale, later to match the season-high in a losing effort at Lehigh. In his second game of the campaign, Johnson posted a game-high 18 points in a Navy rout at the TD Bank Sports Center. He shot 41 percent overall and from three-point land, and totaled six steals in the month.
Azotam also fared well throughout the month of November, aiding Johnson on the offensive end. He averaged 13.8 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in five games for the Bobcats, including individual career-highs in points (20) and rebounds (18) against American and Yale, respectively. Azotam recorded four consecutive double-doubles to begin the season, which moved him into fourth place among active players in the Northeast Conference. He led the conference in rebounds per game, ranked second in offensive rebounds per game and tied for fifth in blocks per game. Furthermore, his numbers on the glass are good enough for eighth place in all of NCAA Division I.
The Bobcats return to the hardwood on Saturday, December 3, at the TD Bank Sports Center. QU takes on NEC foe Bryant for a 3 p.m. start.
