Men's Basketball Adds Kendrick Ray For 2012-13 Season
HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac University Men's Basketball Head Coach Tom Moore has announced that Kendrick Ray (Middletown, N.Y.) will join the Bobcats for the 2012-13 campaign. Ray is currently in his final year with the Bears at Middletown High School and will be eligible for collegiate competition next season.
"I am thrilled to have Kendrick Ray joining our Quinnipiac Basketball family," said Coach Moore. "Kendrick is a highly-skilled offensive player who can play both backcourt spots. He can shoot, score, get in the lane, and distribute the ball very well. He has been well coached at both the high school level by Jim Kelly at Middletown High and in AAU play by Bobby Rahn of the BC Eagles. Kendrick has the potential to have a big impact on our continued success here at Quinnipiac University."
Ray, a 6-foot point guard from Middletown, N.Y., has enjoyed a tremendous career with the Bears' varsity basketball team. Last season, Ray averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game en route a Section 9 First Team All-Star selection at the end of the year. Ray followed with another accolade at the Hoop Group Elite Basketball Camp, where he was ranked in the top-20 among athletes at the July clinic. Most recently, he was recognized as the 2012 NYCHoops.com's Top Point Guard in New York.
"Kendrick Ray is a very motivated and determined young man," said Middletown High School Basketball Head Coach Jim Kelly. "He has a great work ethic and comes from a great Basketball family. He has worked very hard here at Middletown for the last four years. He has elevated his game to a very high level; he is a true point guard with great court vision, an excellent jump shot, and loves to attack the rim with authority. We are all very happy with his decision to play at Quinnipiac and are looking forward to his continued success at a great University with an excellent Basketball Program."
Kendrick Ray will be the third member of his family to play basketball at the Division I level. His brother, Allan Ray, enjoyed a four-year stint at Villanova before signing with the Celtics for the 2006-07 season. His sister, Brittany Ray, enrolled at fellow Big East institution, Rutgers University. She recently signed with the Atlanta Platinum of the Women's United States Basketball Association (WUBSA).
The Bobcats continued their quest for the 2011-12 Northeast Conference title, today, Tuesday, December 6 at the University of Hartford. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
