HAMDEN, Conn. – Senior guard Dave Johnson (Jackson, N.J.) was named the College Sports Madness NEC Player of the Week for his exceptional performance this past weekend at the 2012 Paradise Jam, announced on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. College Sports Madness identifies the highest impact players nationally and from each conference in their weekly feature.
Johnson averaged 13.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists in three games for the Bobcats this past weekend. The Jackson, N.J. native scored at least 12 points in all three games which included a tournament-high of 16 against nationally-ranked No. 21 UConn on Sunday night. Two days prior to the showdown with the Huskies, Johnson poured in 12 points, dished out a game-high six assists and hauled in four rebounds in an overtime win against Iona. The floor general was resilient in all three games, averaging 37.3 minutes per game throughout the tournament.
Johnson is off to a terrific start this season, averaging 11.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and five assists per game. He ranks amongst the leaders of the NEC in assists per game and is currently second on the team in scoring.
The Bobcats will enjoy some time off through the holiday after their stay in Saint Thomas. Quinnipiac returns to the hardwood on Tuesday, November 27 with a crucial non-conference showdown against CJ McCollum and Lehigh Mountain Hawks. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center.
