Men’s Basketball Participates in March Madness at the Hamden Youth Center

HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac University men's basketball team recently took part in a fundraiser for Hamden Youth Services on Friday, March 22, located at the Keefe Community Center on Putnam Avenue. The Hamden Youth Services Bureau hosted its annual 2013 March Madness event, which featured two hours of basketball, live entertainment and local guest appearances.

"We are thrilled to be able to help the Hamden Police and Fire Departments in their support of the Hamden Youth Center," said sixth-year head coach Tom Moore. "Our student-athletes understand and value the role they can play as role models for the area youth."

The main event of the night was the highly anticipated basketball game between the Hamden Fire Department and the Hamden Police Department. Along with children playing on both sides, the two teams squared off in a friendly game of basketball. Quinnipiac athletes cheered from the sidelines and helped out with advice when possible.

"When the Hamden Youth Center reached out to us, we were very excited at the opportunity to attend," said junior power forward Ike Azotam. "We really enjoy hanging out with the kids and helping anyway we can." Along with Coach Moore and Azotam, Assistant Coach Scott Burrell, Director of Basketball Operations Mike Papale, Kendrick Ray, James Ford, Marquis Barnett and Evan Conti all joined in on the festivities.

"On behalf of the Hamden Police Department and the Hamden Youth Services, I would like to thank the Quinnipiac Men's Basketball Team for their participation in our March Madness Event," said Officer Scott Jason. "The coaching staff and players are positive role models for the youth service and juvenile review board kids to look up to."

The Hamden Youth Services Bureau was established in 1975 as a municipal department of the Town of Hamden. The Hamden Youth Services Bureau seeks to improve the quality of life for the children, youth and families of Hamden by providing a variety of programs and services.
