HAMDEN, Conn. – The hype continues to hang around the Quinnipiac University men's basketball team as the Bobcats received votes in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Poll on Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013. Quinnipiac is off to a 4-2 start and caught the attention of the voters in the most recent census.
The Bobcats won four of their first five games and boasted the team's best start since the 2010-11 season. Quinnipiac saw its three-game winning streak snapped against Boston University on Monday night, but will look to bounce back when it opens MAAC play this weekend.
After an 8-0 start, the Shockers of Wichita State took the top slot in the poll with 30 of the 31 first-place votes. New England foe Harvard (7-1) was second, while Gonzaga (7-1), Belmont (7-2) and Saint Mary's (6-0) rounded out the top five. The Bulldogs claimed the other first-place vote.
Manhattan College and Iona College serve as the other two MAAC teams in the poll. The Jaspers were ranked 11th with the Gaels taking 28th with 51 points. Quinnipiac claimed 10 which have them in 43rd.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Friday, Dec. 6 with its inaugural Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game. The Bobcats host Fairfield University at 8:30 p.m. at the TD Bank Sports Center on York Hill Campus.
