Ike Azotam Named ECAC New England Player of the Week

CENTERVILLE, Mass. – Quinnipiac senior Ike Azotam (Boston, Mass.) was named the Corvias ECAC New England Player of the Week, the association announced Tuesday, December 17, 2013.

In a 1-1 week for the Bobcats, Azotam led the team in averaging 21 points and 10 rebounds per game. Arguably his two best  games of the season, the 6-7 forward went off against Rider (12/8), posting a season high of 24 points on 9-of-14 (.643) shooting against the Broncs. He  added seven rebounds which put him at 802 in a Bobcat uniform, as he joined five other players to accumulate 1,000 points and 800 rebounds in a career at Quinnipiac. He also went 6-of-6 from the free-throw line and dished out two assists in the losing effort.

Azotam once again paced the offense in its most recent outing and led Quinnipiac to a convincing 80-67 victory over Vermont (12/15) at Patrick Gymnasium. Azotam finished with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting and collected 13 rebounds for his 32nd career double-double. Azotam only picked up one personal foul in the game which allowed him to log 38 minutes on the hardwood. He had 10 points before the break by way of five first half field goals, and did half of his damage in the second stanza from the charity stripe where he went 4-for-4 by game's end. Azotam also added a block and three offensive rebounds to his stat line. It was his fifth double-double in his last six games, and leaves him just nine shy of Justin Rutty's Quinnipiac Division I record of 41.

The Bobcats are back in action against Lehigh on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. The game will take place at Stabler Arena in Bethlehem, Pa. with tip-off slated for 7 p.m.
